Artistic excellence makes the world sit up in wonder.

The Visual Arts Department at Mount Roskill Grammar School is a small but vibrant department with a team of dedicated teachers. The aesthetic and technical training that students receive in the Visual Arts Department provides a valuable basis for entry into further education at tertiary level, and our students have a sound record of gaining positions at tertiary art and design institutions.

One down - Three to go!!

Term One is nearly over with only 2 weeks (make that 9 days) of term left until the school holidays.
We had a great time on our trip to see Public Access by Cut Collective at the Auckland Gallery and were very fortunate to have  Ross Liew AKA TrustMe talk to us about Cut Collective, the bonuses and challenges of working collaboratively and the context of Art. It really got us talking about Gallery Art vs Street Art. Thanks Ross!

The year 13 students have spent most of this term investigating and analysing selected artist models and are now starting to create their own artworks inspired and influenced by their artist models. This is when it gets exciting and we are looking forward to posting more of our students artwork online.

It has been a real buzz for us stepping outside of our usual subject matter based programmes and We (the Art teachers) feel like we have broken ourselves and our students free from the shackles of still-life, portrait and landscape, instead investigating and creating ideas & media based Art. Which is so much more liberating, meaningful and fun!!

Our year 12 students started the year experimenting with media based expressive drawing that we used as a starting point for designing a streetwear brand. There is some very creative ideas and quite 'professional' looking logos starting to develop.

This term has been really short and the next couple of weeks will be vital for generating and developing ideas in preparation for a very productive (and long) 11 week Term Two. Remember all senior internal assessments for Art and Photography are due in at the senior exams in week 8 of Term Two.  Keep up the hard work everyone,  the effort you put in now will pay off when you have to put your end of year portfolio together.
